spanish double surname system

Beitrag von Gast »

Hello to everybody,

in Spain we have a double surname system, (name, 1 or several) (1st surname - father 1st surname) (2nd surname - mothers 1st surname).
And not only that, even if a woman marries, her surnames (both) will not change.
In Spain a persons name and surnames will not change, your identity will be the same all your live no matter how many times a woman marries.
The only exception is when you aply for a change (whatever reason) at court.
So when I enter a person, I see only 1 slot to enter their surname but not a 2nd one to enter the 2nd surname.
Could there be a some way to add this as a feature in new versions by adding a check box or something like that to change to this double system?
Thanks, corinnepf

Hi corinnepf,

very welcome to the users' forum! If ever you have something to communicate to the developer of the software, use his email (program menu: ? > INFO)! He just reads our talks every now and then.

The thing with names is linked to the GEDCOM standard. Would be best if you ask some people from Spain how they are using GEDCOM. The data fields are mostly common to all genealogy software.

Whereas Ahnenblatt 2.9x has a limited set of data fields, you can create even your owns in Ahnenblatt 3.x - but it would be best to do it in the standard; that way you can exchange persons in your family file with other interested people.

But why not filling the first AND the second surname into the surname field?
