Is a Fan chart possible with Anhenblatt?

Beitrag von U235861 »

I currently use Ahnenblatt 3.21.

A very cool feature I discovered last year with FamilySearch was the Fan Chart for familiy trees:
https://www.familysearch.org/blog/en/ge ... fan-chart/
Regrettably, this Fan Chart covers at most 7 generations. And, it comes with the obvious nuisance of uploading a family tree to FamilySearch and seeing it modified by anyone else (... not cool). So, I certainly prefer to pay and use Ahnenblatt for my own genealogical research.

I wonder if something similar to the Fan Chart above would be possible (in the near future?) with Ahnenblatt. Right now the Ancestor chart does not have that look and feel, I wonder if it would be possible to create something with this "fan" shape, which apparently would seem to use space (when printing) more efficiently?

And, obviously, it should be configurable to add as many generations as desired to the chart.

Hi U235861,

Ahnenblatt is a very versatile and powerful genealogical desktop editing software. The layout of its charts or trees in contrast is basically always the same. I don't think this will change quickly.

A big advantage of Ahnenblatt is its free structure: It's aimed to be easy to import data and to export everything again without a loss. So there shouldn't be any problem to use it as a GEDCOM editing software and then forward the results to one either specialised in website creation or printing. All that exists. In German context, some of the Ahnenblatt users will print their results with Stammbaumdrucker which has a fan chart, too. There should be more options, though.

I am however pretty sure that you won't find a software that allows for any number of generations. If you look at the familysearch chart, you will easily see that there might be an eighth generation but not much more: Name fieldts would get too slim. An eight generation semi-circle was what I inherited from my grandma: It had been bought as a template in those days.
